Online Guide to the Papers of Charles Booth

The Online Guide to the Papers of Charles Booth is a project based at the London School of Economics working with the University of London Library. It has been funded by the Research Support Libraries Programme to bring new and innovative access to the papers, maps and publications of Charles Booth.

The project will deliver a web site linking the following elements:

• Digital versions of the Maps Descriptive of London Poverty, 1898-1899.
• Digital versions of the 31 survey notebooks following police on their beats (c.1897 - c.1900). To view some sample pages, click here.
• Detailed online catalogue of the Booth archives at the London School of Economics, describing the original notebooks used in the Inquiry into the Life and Labour of the People in London.
• Online catalogue of the Booth archives at the University of London Library, covering correspondence and Booth family materials.
• Digital version of the Booth family magazine.

Users will be able to search the site materials by street and place name, by controlled subject indexing, by personal or corporate name, and by date. The map will also serve as an entry point to the other site materials, allowing users to identify references to geographic points or areas.
